Security Alert: Qlik vulnerability related to Microsoft Server
With millions of workers now doing their jobs remotely, we’re increasingly concerned about the security of Qlik environments. We’ve proactively performed security testing on a number of our clients’ Qlik servers, and we’ve found some vulnerabilities.
What You Need to Know
It’s important to know that this is not a Qlik issue. Qlik is dependent on the Microsoft Windows Server Operating System (OS) to provide website security related to SSL and TLS protocols. These protocols protect web servers and web content for users, including those using remote connections for Qlik.
Fortunately, there is a way to fix the issue — and protect your Qlik environment.
The solution can take a number of forms, depending on which Windows OS your server is running. If you are on Windows Server 2016 or 2019, it involves disabling certain TLS and SSL protocols and then configuring Qlik to support the new protocols. If you are on an older version of Windows Server, to get an “A” rating requires upgrading or migrating to either Windows Server 2016 or 2019.
Our main concern is your Qlik environment’s security, and helping you address this issue as soon as possible. To show you why it’s important, here are the security scan reports for two Qlik servers. We are seeing many “F” grades for client Qlik and non-Qlik environments because of their reliance on Windows Server security, and because of the constant need to patch and secure as new exploits are identified.
