Tackling Bigger Problems Than Just Business

Everyone who knows me knows I’m a technology and gadget evangelist. But today I’d like to take a break from all our technical posts and highlight another way that Solve likes to tackle problems – big, important problems.

One of the biggest problems facing the world is access to clean drinking water.

The Big Idea

Who doesn’t like wine? And wouldn’t it be great if by having a glass of wine we were also supporting a great humanitarian effort?

Solve recently attended a user conference for Davisware, a provider of innovative ERP business software solutions to the Service, Construction, Distribution, and Manufacturing industries.

During their user conference they supported Wine to Water, and had the founder in attendance to share his story and vision. It made an impact on everyone in attendance and we decided, as a company, to the drilling / repair of a well.

Starting in 2003, bartender Doc Hendley came up with the idea to tackle the problems of disease (like HIV, malaria, tuberculosis) and quench the thirst of those in need by drilling wells in the impoverished parts of the world and establishing programs for locally sourced parts and maintenance services to keep them in operation.  The accomplishments of Wine to Water include:

At Solve we have several friends and even a few clients in the wine distribution business. We take special pleasure in the connection between the work we do and this important charity we’ve chosen to support.

So back to the geeky side: We are looking forward to getting the GPS coordinates for the well we are supporting so we can check in periodically using Google Earth to witness as a community grows and develops at our sponsored location!

Please donate, enjoy a glass of your favorite and join us in supporting this important cause at: Water to Wine.

In the meantime, in the words of Doc Hendley, Founder/President of Wine To Water, “Fight the Good Fight.
